South African Forestry Company (SAFCOL) Youth Programmes

 

Learning and Development

One of the Groups’ (SAFCOL and Komatiland Forests) objectives is to promote Forestry as a career of choice. In an effort to achieve this, we invest in education and skills development of employees; communities living adjacent to our plantations; and women and youth from previously disadvantaged communities.

 

 

 

 

 


 Youth Development Programmes run by SAFCOL
 


Internship Programme: 

This programme targets unemployed graduates with a view to provide the interns with on-the-job learning opportunities and creating an environment where they can acquire requisite skills and competences. The graduates are placed on a twelve month contract programme. Orientation and induction of the interns and their mentors takes place at the beginning of this twelve month period.

Requirements:

  • National Diploma / Degree
  • Between 18-35 years of age
  • Preparedness to enter into a 12 month contract period and willingness to learn and use opportunities of internship programme.

Access points:

Recruitment is conducted through advertising in national and local media according to needs identified at departmental level.

Learnership Programme General Education Training: 

This programme targets learners who successfully completed their Grade 12 and wish to follow a career in forestry. The bridging programme is at a NQF level 1 and compulsory for successful bursary applicants from Komatiland Forests. Preference is given to young people from historically disadvantaged communities specifically those adjacent to our operations.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 with Mathematics, Science and Biology
  • Proficiency in English
  • Comprehensive selection testing will be compulsory
Access points:

Recruitment is conducted through advertising in national and local media where interested persons shall be required to send a short a written motivation stating why they are applying for a learnership and why they should be accepted into the programme. A two page CV, and certified copies of ID and Grade 12 results or copies of latest academic results with the school stamp or principal’s signature should be included.

Applications open annually between October and December only or as otherwise indicated on our company website.


Bursary Programme: 

SAFCOL runs bursary schemes through its subsidiary Komatiland Forests, aimed at the development of students with preference to young people from historically disadvantaged communities and specifically those adjacent to our operations. SAFCOL offers bursaries opportunities to successful student who wish to study towards a degree or diploma in the following priority fields; Forestry, Sawmilling (Wood Technology), Civil and Mechanical Engineering. Limited space is also available to candidates wishing to study towards the following fields such as; Accountancy, Information Technology, Environmental Management, Human Resource Management and Marketing.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 with Mathematics, Science and Biology (for Forestry qualifications)
  • Proficiency in English
  • Comprehensive selection testing will be compulsory
