Question for written reply

Question no.: 633

Date of publication: 16 November 2012

633. Mr K A Sinclair (COPE-NC) to ask the Minister of Public Enterprises:

Whether, with reference to Eskom’s Transmission strategic grid planning, the Kusile coal-fired power station will be closed; if not, what is the position in this regard; if so, what are the relevant details? CW844E

Reply:

No, the Department of Energy’s Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) 2012 makes provision for the Kusile power station’s integration into the transmission system and is included in both the Transmission Grid Plan and the Transmission Development Plan. The transmission system will continue to be planned to accept the full output of Kusile for its planned life.

All the servitudes for the transmission lines except for one required for Kusile have been acquired and the lines are at various stages of construction.
