High telecommunication costs have been a hindrance to economic growth.

The DPE intends leveraging the existing SOE investment in a fibre optic backbone for the country (known as the full services network, or FSN) to provide a broadband solution for the country.

Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) has been identified by the Deputy-President and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) as a key growth sector in our economy. The Department Public Enterprises in conjunction with the Department of Higher Education (DHET) has initiated a pilot project that will locate call centres in Further Education and Training Colleges (FETs) in areas where there is a large population of unemployed graduates and youth.

The team is working with the DoE, DTI and Department of Communications (DoC) on this project.
