Bulelani Gratitude Magwanishe was born in the year 1973.​

He served in the Regional Executive Committee of the ANC Youth League as well the REC of the ANC, East Rand Region (now Ekurhuleni).

He served in the Gauteng Provincial Political Youth Committee upon being appointed by the N.E.C of the Youth League after the disbandment of the Provincial Executive Committee.  

Between the years 2001 and 2004 he served as a member of the Provincial Executive Committee Member of the Youth League (Gauteng Province).

In 2003 he was appointed as member of the Provincial Election Task Team (Gauteng Province).

In the year 2010 he was appointed as member of the Regional Interim Leadership Core of Ekurhuleni, after the disbandment of the Executive Committee.


Parliamentary work

In 1999 he was elected to the National Assembly as a member. Between the years I999-2004 he served on the Portfolio Committee of Justice and Constitutional Development, and Constitutional Review Committee and later was appointed Whip for the Portfolio Committee of Justice and Constitutional Development.

He also served as Cluster Whip for Peace and Security responsible for the following Study Groups

  • Justice and Constitutional Development;
  • Defence; Home Affairs;
  • Foreign Affairs;
  • Safety and Security;
  • Correctional Services and Intelligence.

    In 2008 he was appointed to be the Deputy Chief Whip of the ANC in the National Assembly and during this time, he was appointed as Chairperson of the Multiparty Committee on Members interest.

    At the same time, he also served in the following Committees in Parliament,
  • Multi-party Chief Whips Forums.
  • National Assembly Rules Committee
  • Joint Rules Committee of the National Assembly and National Council of Provinces.
Deputy Chairperson of the Strategy Committee of the ANC in the National Assembly.

In the year 2012 he was appointed to be the Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises and was re-appointed to the portfolio in the year 2014 leading to his appointment to sit in the Secretariat of the Presidential Infrastructure Coordinating Council (PICC) as well as other committees.
